"A single seed can change a world, and a technology can create a miracle." China is not only a major player in animal husbandry, but also the world's leading nation in fisheries. Fine animal breeds, as the foundation of these industries, have determined the quality and efficiency of the entire supply chain. Serving as the cornerstone of these industries, breeding technologies for fine animal breeds have demonstrated remarkable vitality and creativity during the overall upgrading of the industry chain.
From initially addressing the question of "do we have fine breeds or not?" and "Are they sufficient?" to focusing on solving the issues of "how fine are they?" and "how strong are they?", the nation has made planning systematically and implemented strategies separately, while industry leaders are dedicated and tireless striving to inject "Chinese Essence" into animal breeding.
In recent years, China has made breakthroughs in multiple animal breeding fields, i.e., the successful independent breeding of a new variety of white-feather broilers, achieving true poultry self-sufficiency, "Huaxi Cattle" receiving the national certificate for new livestock and poultry breeds, becoming a new breed of beef cattle in China with completely independent intellectual property rights; and the development of a series of new species of fish such as carp, crucian, tilapia, Penaeus chinensis, and scallops, bringing about a generation shift in species.
To promote the exchange of research achievements and industrial transformation in the field of animal genetics and breeding, and support the efforts in advancing the animal breeding industry, an online seminar titled "Cutting-edge Technologies of Animal Genomic Breeding and Industry Applications" is jointly supported by the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Animal Genetics, Breeding, and Reproduction of the Ministry of Education at Huazhong Agricultural University, Shenzhen National Gene Bank, the National Livestock Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, and the Frontiers in Genomic Breeding (FGB) and co-hosted by Yingzi Gene, MGI and Yeasen.
The Conference will be held at 13:30 on December 8, 2022 (next Thursday), with its topics including functional genomics research, genome-wide selection, gene editing and other cutting-edge breeding technologies, as well as their application in animal industry and species covering common livestock and poultry as well as aquaculture, such as pigs, chickens, cattle, sheep and fish. The focus will be on the application of industry, university and research in the field of China's self-developed technologies in animal genetic breeding. We sincerely invite you to participate in!
